About Edgar’s

Our goal is to be a one-stop shop for customers to get all their farming needs.

How we started

Edgar’s is a long-standing business in the local agriculture industry – we have been in business for over 40 years. Niel and Cathy Edgar started Edgar’s to provide feed for local farmers and as time went on, they added more products to sell.

Elliott Miller, our current owner, has worked with Niel Edgar for the past 17 years. He started working at Edgar’s part-time while in high school and continued through university. After he graduated, Elliott transitioned to full-time and in 2013, he and his wife, Rebecca, purchased the business.

As young business owners, Elliott and Rebecca continued increasing Edgar’s product offerings. At the same time, Elliott expanded his knowledge of other farm animals and Edgar’s became a dealer for two new feed companies. The new goal for Edgar’s was to be a one-stop-shop for customers to get all their farming needs. Edgar’s also started selling products from its own customers, like freezer meat, cheese, dairy products, pet food, and bird seed once they moved to their new store location.

Rebecca started managing seed and agronomy for Edgar’s full-time in the fall of 2020. The connections she had made while working in the corporate industry made her new role a perfect fit.

Where we’re at now

As a young family, we are very proud to serve the area’s local farms and the general population.

Elliott and Rebecca are fully committed to increasing their education and experience in various farming practices and management systems. With their dedication and the support of other knowledgeable industry experts, the entire team at Edgar’s Feed & Seed are devoted to helping their customers succeed.

Today, Edgar’s Feed and Seed’s goal is to remain a local resource for large-scale operators, smaller homestead/hobby farmers or people from residential areas. We want our trusted producers to feel comfortable approaching us with questions. In return, we will continue to offer the best possible products and superior customer service to our community.

Take a look back at some key moments

A collection of important milestones

  • Niel Edgar started selling Swift Feeds bagged feed out of the shed on his farm in 1975. He eventually started offering animal health products out of his garage. Everything related to the business, including financials, sales, and billing was tracked by hand without any technology to help.

  • In 1993, Niel began working at the business full time and renamed it to Edgar’s Feed & Seed.

  • While attending school, Elliott started working with Niel part-time. When Elliott graduated from University in 2011, he became a full-time employee.

  • Elliott and Niel continued to work together after the business transition in 2013 to maintain customer retention. This is when all the billing and customer info was converted to a computer. Over time, the customers started to rely on Edgar’s to deliver their products directly to their farms. The delivery aspect of Edgar’s continues to be a big part of the business.

  • The building process for the new store, warehouse, and unloading dock began in 2017 and was open for business in early 2018.

  • We began supplying Floradale Feed in 2015 and Purina in early 2018.

In the summer of 2020, Rebecca resigned from her corporate agronomy job so she could focus on the crop and agronomy portion of the business. This let her continue to specialize in providing agronomic services closer to home while also growing the business at Edgar’s.

  • In the summer of 2022 a new warehouse was constructed to the west of the current building to store seed and extra feed and supply inventories
